Reporting Fraud

One of Social Security Administration's (SSA's) five strategic goals is "to make SSA program management the best in the business with zero tolerance for fraud." An initiative stemming from this goal is creation of Cooperative Disability Investigations (CDI) Teams that are managed by SSA and the Office of he Inspector General. The purpose of the initiative is to provide greater investigative support to the state Disability Determination Services.

Since 1998, thirteen CDI teams have been operational throughout the country targeting doctors, lawyers, and other service providers who facilitate disability fraud. Their efforts have resulted in over $148 million in projected savings to the SSA program.
